Whitehouse supports Media APPG to raise issues around public interest journalism in Westminster

Watch here.

Both the challenges of and societal need for funding public interest journalism are making themselves unprecedentedly known in light of Covid-19 and global politics. We brought this too-often overlooked issue to over 150 policy makers, influencers and politicians.

Whitehouse’s client, the APPG Media, worked in collaboration with its sponsors NewsNow to host a virtual panel discussion on funding and regulating public interest journalism in a world of fake news.

We heard from a panel of distinguished speakers:

  1. Jonathan Heawood, Public Interest News Foundation

  2. Adam Newby, NewsNow

  3. Rachel Oldroyd, Bureau of Investigative Journalism

  4. Matt Rogerson, Guardian Media Group

The Group’s Chair, Andy Carter MP, led the discussion.

The discussion explored the issue of funding and regulating public interest journalism, spanning funding, regulation, fake news and freedom of speech, and the prospective policy solutions to protect and promote legitimate news over misinformation in the digital world.

You can watch the discussion in full here.
