Think tank championing personal freedom would prefer people didn't move – immigration places too much pressure on public service it says

Unfettered population growth fuelled by high levels of immigration could negatively affect living standards in the UK, according to a new report from the Civitas thinktank – a libertarian think tank (in theory). The report, authored by Cambridge University Marxist economist Robert Rowthorn, warns that a “small gain” in average wages resulting from immigration would be outweighed by increased pressure on infrastructure and public services. The analysis also concluded that the Conservatives’ aim to reduce net migration to the “tens of thousands” by the next election would be unachievable if current levels of EU migration persist.
