Regulator saves glucosamine supplements

A UK regulator has won a landmark victory in the High Court to set a precedent on the classification of food supplements.

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency obtained a ruling that glucosamine can in principle continue to be marketed under food law even though one glucosamine product has been granted a licence to be sold as a medicine across the European Union. Regulators have established the principle that they will continue to be permitted to make such regulatory classifications on a case by case basis.
