Labour warn of NHS being “exploited for profit”

Labour Shadow Secretary Andy Burnham has warned that the NHS could be “carved open” for US companies to exploit for profit. Andy Burnham said the NHS must be exempt from the EU-US trade treaty currently being negotiated as it threatens the “fabric” of a universally free health service. However, the Department of Health said fears the implications of the trade treaty for the NHS were “misplaced”.
