The Minister for Disabled People, Mike Penning MP, has said that new figures showing that 37% of claims for the Government’s new disability benefit have been awarded demonstrate that “those that need support receive it”. The Minister also argued that the old Disability Living Allowance scheme had led to an £11 billion rise in spending on disability benefits over the past two decades.
