NAO warns about NHS waiting times stats

The National Audit Office has found “inconsistencies” in the way NHS hospitals record waiting times data. In a sample of 650 patient files, the watchdog found 202 incomplete records and 167 cases where errors had been made in recording when patients started and ended their wait for treatment.

Gary from PSI:  Jeremy Hunt MP, Health Secretary, has responded by pointing out that the report showed a “dramatic” fall in the figures of people waiting for more than 18 weeks. Not surprisingly Hunt was keen to downplay the significance of the National Audit Office’s report.
