Government announce doubling of time that young offenders spend in education

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and Justice Secretary Chris Grayling have announced that the amount of time that young offenders spend in education is to be doubled. The Deputy Prime Minister said the move was needed to cut “sky-high” reoffending rates and ensure that youngsters were not “left on the scrapheap”. Justice Secretary Chris Grayling said that “secure colleges” would replace existing secure training centres, which he said would cut both costs and reoffending.
