Fate of the Student Opportunity Fund to be decided by the 'Quad'

The Student Opportunity Fund – the resource which supports students attending university from middle class backgrounds – is to be decided by the ‘Quad’ of senior coalition figures after a stalement was reached between HM Treasury and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills over who should run the fund. Whilst cutting the fund is reportedly supported by Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander, the Treasury and the Cabinet Office, Higher Education Minister David Willetts and Business Secretary Vince Cable are both worried by the plan to scrap the fund.
