Concern raised over future of children's centres

Senior Local Government representatives told MPs that they feared for the future of those centres which offer a universal service to all children and parents in the community. London Councils Executive Member for Children and Young People, Councillor Peter John, and Councillor David Simmonds, Chair of the Local Government Association’s Children and Young People Board, expressed concern to the Education Committee that due to cuts to local government budgets most children’s centres will soon be forced to offer only a targeted service for the most vulnerable families.
