An Associate Director role in the UK team of an established political communications agency.   

Summary:

This is an exciting opportunity to provide leadership to a talented team across a range of UK accounts, drive forward business strategies as part of the Whitehouse senior leadership team and take a proactive role in identifying and securing new business.  

Whitehouse is a small, dynamic team with clients across the health, food and drink, energy and creative industries. The new Associate Director would thrive in a fast-moving entrepreneurial atmosphere, have a love of politics and a high level of professionalism. We’re looking for someone with substantial experience in public affairs, corporate communications or external relations either in agency or in-house, or with equivalent experience in government or the media.   

About us: 

The Whitehouse Consultancy specialises in integrated communications campaigns across public affairs, policy analysis, media relations and crisis communications to engage with decision makers in Westminster, Whitehall and the devolved institutions to shape the issues agenda.   

As Associate Director your responsibilities will include:  

  • Leading on client accounts: devising integrated communications strategies that meet client business objectives and overseeing their delivery as head of the account team.  
  • Delivering high-level client outcomes, achieving profitability and account growth with a view to developing a client cluster or leading on a particular policy area. Working with the EU public affairs team to identify opportunities across accounts.  
  • Driving forwards new business development, including development and delivery of new business strategies, identifying opportunities for potential clients, and oversight of new business proposals.  
  • Working as part of the senior leadership team to drive forward Whitehouse business strategies and meet business targets, playing a central role in training and developing staff and in delivering the Whitehouse marketing strategy.

The ideal candidate will have:  

  • Significant experience in a political or policy-making role in Westminster, Whitehall, think-tank, NGO or the private sector.  
  • Substantial experience of delivering public affairs, media relations and social media strategies.  
  • The ability to devise and carry out successful political campaigns for the public, private and voluntary sectors encompassing both media relations and public affairs tactics.  
  • Experience in providing senior counsel to leaders at senior executive and C-suite levels.   
  • The ability to operate in a collegiate manner and provide high-level and strategic advice and counsel to the Managing Director.  
  • Desirable: a proven ability to retain clients over the long-term, a proven track record of winning new business and working independently and autonomously in overseeing and managing client accounts.  
  • Desirable: a passion and expertise in a particular policy area.

Job Description

  • Taking responsibility for the professional management and execution of public affairs, media and social media campaigns; acting as day to day client contact; devising client strategy and maintaining profitable accounts.
  • Taking initiative to identify and realise new business, researching for and writing proposals and pitches.
  • Contributing to Whitehouse marketing including writing blogs and articles, as well as contributing to social media and events organisation.
  • Working with junior members of staff to develop their skills and undertaking line management of junior members of the team.

Core competencies and experience

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject.
  • Demonstrable experience in a political, public policy or media relations role in Westminster, Whitehall, think-tanks, NGOs or the private sector.
  • A demonstrable ability to devise and carry out successful political or communications campaigns for clients from the public, private and voluntary sectors.
  • Demonstrable business awareness and ability to apply business sense to the day to day job.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate with a range of decision makers along with senior corporate personnel.
  • Excellent writing skills. Experience of presenting reports and presentations both verbally and in writing.
  • The ability to understand and digest complex information quickly and effectively.
  • Desirable: a demonstrable ability to bring in new business
  • Desirable: some experience of managing a junior team

Job Title: EU Political Consultant / Associate Political Consultant

Job Details

The Whitehouse Consultancy is an issues-led communications agency, specialising in public affairs, policy analysis, media relations and crisis communications. We advise clients on how to effectively, and positively, engage with key decision-makers and influencers in: Westminster, Whitehall, Brussels and devolved and local government.

Whitehouse is looking for a consultant to join its EU team dealing primarily with food and nutrition policy, public health, digital policy and issues arising from Britain’s departure from the EU. The successful candidate would have detailed knowledge and understanding of EU politics and policies and workings of the European institutions.

We are looking for candidates who can hit the ground running in building strong relationships with our clients, working with a good degree of independence and contributing enthusiastically to business development.

Core responsibilities:
• Assessing the effects of European and national policies on existing and potential clients, using public sources, political intelligence and personal contacts;
• Providing detailed guidance to clients on the interplay between a variety of European laws across a number of sectors;
• Liaising with the European institutions, stakeholders, trade associations and other external bodies on a daily basis;
• Attending client meetings with European Commission officials, European Parliamentarians, their equivalents in the UK, and other Member State officials and carrying forward action, briefing clients before or after each meeting and actively contributing during discussions.
• Drafting and overseeing the production and quality control of written correspondence, briefings, research, meeting packs and reports, public policy position statements and target lists of elected representatives and officials;
• Organising events for clients and attending meetings with potential clients;
• Undertaking research and preparing background documents for new business proposals.
• Supporting internal communications, in particular where our role is to provide Secretariat services to a trade body or other coalition of companies and organisations.
• Support on media strategies including writing press releases and copy for social media campaigns, identifying media opportunities for clients, and pitching to journalists;

Job Title: Internship (PR and media relations)

The Whitehouse Consultancy is an award-winning communications agency with decades of experience in public affairs, press and media relations, stakeholder engagement, crisis communications and training.

We support long-term business and policy objectives; and run high-profile campaigns for clients in the private, public and charitable sectors that influence public opinion, impact policy, legislation and regulation and build support among key opinion formers and decision makers. We have offices in London and Brussels covering our clients’ communication needs at the local, national and European level.

We are now recruiting an Intern to provide support to the media team in our office based near London Bridge.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with a keen interest in media relations, digital media, politics and public affairs to gain an insight into work in a consultancy environment.

The internship will provide the successful candidate with a thorough understanding of media relations and traditional and new media techniques, and how to use those to manage reputation and influence public opinion and behaviour. The candidate is likely to also be exposed to parliamentary processes, including legislative work, research, campaigning and public affairs techniques. We pay all our interns the London Living Wage and the majority go on to secure full-time jobs in public affairs.

Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Implementing integrated PR strategies to secure company and client objectives
  • Maintaining and updating information on the company and client websites and optimising for search engine rankings
  • Managing and updating information and engaging with users on social media sites such as Twitter and LinkedIn
  • Researching, writing and distributing press releases to targeted media
  • Collating and analysing media coverage
  • Organising and delivering company and client events to meet respective objectives
  • Attending networking and media events as well as meetings with clients, journalists and partner organisations

Requirements:

– Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject

– Able to demonstrate a strong interest and some experience in PR and media relations

– Able to demonstrate experience in digital media, including social media, website management and SEO

– Excellent written and verbal communication skills

– A good team player, willing to contribute at every level
